How do I treat this and what do? (Piercing issue)?

I got a belly button piercing 10 days ago. The first week it looked fine, but now it's really red were the ball sits on it. It's kind of draining, but they said that's to be expected. It doesn't really hurt until I clean it with the anti bacterial soap they said to.

Is this normal?

What should I put on it?

This is my first piercing so I really don't know what to look for.

PLease give me advice and experiences. I really have no clue how navel piercings heal or anything like that.

Thanks

oh yeah, and there's like a tiny 1 cm red line too that goes up from where the all is...could this just be from where my skin hits it when I sit?

It kind of looks like it. Stop with the anti-bac soap. Bathe twice a day in a saline solution (thats salt water - boil the kettle, pour into an egg cup, add a teaspoon of fine sea salt, let it disolve and cool down to luke warm)

Use q-tips to clean it. Wear low slung trousers and a large square of gauze over it so you cant catch it, but take it off to let it breathe at night.

Do NOT touch or play with it as this will only irritate it and risk of infection from the germs on your hands.
  • This could be a build up of soup in the open piercing. Mine was the same way when I got it. From now on only use Sea Salt. You can get this at pretty much any store. It should go away within a week, if the problem persist then I suggest going back to your piercing artist and having them take a look at it. It MAY [possibly] also be a red circle which forms after some piercings and lasts between 3 weeks and 1 year. I don't think it is that though, so try the sea salt and see what happens.
