Project ideas for American & Canadian confederations?

I have a project that is due in one week. It has to highlight the differences and similarities between how Canada and America were formed. There is a lot of freedom with it so I'm open to all ideas. Thanks. Not sure how much you could do with this, but the obvious thing to talk about would be how America got its independance by fighting for it while Canada got it by pretty much asking nicely.
